PUBLIC HOUSES "INN" REDBOURN opened February 2026:
PUBLIC HOUSES “INN” REDBOURN focuses on the pubs that remain but also includes some of the 40 that we have lost. Yes, it is hard to believe that in total there have been 44 inns, or beer houses in Redbourn over the years, due largely to the importance of the location of the village on the Watling Street, especially during the stagecoach era. Thankfully, the busy main road now runs around Redbourn on the by-pass which was completed in 1984.
The old Public Houses always fascinate our visitors, and we have many photographs of them plus memorabilia from inns past and present. As well as the exhibition, our new interactive map of Redbourn brings many of these and other important buildings to life with historic and recent photographs, easily accessed via a touch screen in the Occupations Room downstairs.
Our thanks go to Hertfordshire Association of Museums who awarded a grant that funded the new display equipment.
